Predict petal length from sepal length, both in centimetres, in the small Iris dataset. Species is used for partition balance and error inspection, never as a model input. Start with a mean prediction; a more complicated model does not automatically win.
Public Iris measurements have been used in preceding lessons. Reserved within this workflow does not mean previously unseen or independently authenticated. Your report, objective transfer answers and pending human review have separate statuses. Everything is saved locally in version 4 progress; no account or cloud sync is implied.
Deduplicate identical original four-feature vectors; within each species in first-occurrence order, group index modulo five: 0 evaluation, 1 development, 2–4 training. Predictor: sepal length; target: petal length, both cm. Species stratifies the split and supplies error slices, not a model input.

No synthetic missingness or unit alteration is applied here. The asset’s feasibility manifest describes a different development split; this project uses iris-petal-from-sepal-grouped-v1.

Calculate a baseline, then compare a line or ensemble.
Interpret the comparison
Training fits each model; development informs selection; the explicit frozen evaluation describes the selected recipe on a reserved partition of previously exposed public data. MAE is measured in centimetres and MSE in squared centimetres. Inspect individual errors before making a claim.
